When building any custom home, the time comes when it will be left up to the client to select various products, finishes, and options for the home. Many owners employ the services of an interior designer to assist them in making these selections and decisions, and lean to them for guidance during this time. However, many people will go this process alone, and very often successfully create appealing spaces that suit their wishes and needs.

For those who wish to have an interior design eye and guidance on making these decisions, HausPlanned offers one-on-one attention to this phase, as an interior designer, and as the plan designer who knows the house, intimately. And also as a custom builder who clearly understands what is at hand, and what it takes to create the spaces and details that have been designed. Additionally, we work hand-in-hand with a hand-picked select few interior designers who are independent, and are seasoned with stellar reputations.
In the capacity of acting as the interior designer, beyond design principles, we exercise budget examination on each phase of the process, reviewing allowances - if given by the builder-- advise on appropriate spending amounts for each category, and guide to our choice select vendors, suppliers, and showrooms, in effort to assist the client in creating total concert in the overall interior design of the home. This creates a continuity of visual aspects through style, appeal, and comfort, that is felt throughout the home, and overall fit. Attention to the livability of the house, and what makes it HOME. As well, we have relationships with subcontractors who craft their work, rather than just do it, whom we recommend highly.

The kitchen is the literal heart of a house. Everyone gathers here, and it is most often the room that has the most life. Therefore, the tops - usually granite or quartz - are always our first go-to for the basis of the "feels" of any house, setting the tone and mood. When HausPlanned is the interior designer, Ty takes the clients to the showrooms and warehouses to look at options based on the clients' Menu parameters and interior interests. Our preferred vendors all provide multiple options - granite, quartz, high-performance surfaces & other. Custom site-built options are sample provided in mock-up scenarios.

HausPlanned has developed a detailed app system, specifically designed and created for the client's use during the selection process, which is the client's literal playbook. The app is the saving's grace system for keeping sanity in the process of selection. The "tops" are generally the starting point for using the system, yet it can begin anywhere in the selection process. Like HausPlanned, the app is 100% customizable towards helping the client achieve, know, understand, and relay their information. Regardless, we recommend beginning here.

In selecting within the categories above, each carry their own processes and options. Following a standard of best exercised brings smart decisions. Many variables apply to even multiple levels within the lighting, plumbing, and cabinetry categories, themselves. Education is key to knowing the subject and making wise selections. HausPlanned prepares - pre-visitation, to the various showrooms - to prepare our clients for what our goals are. This is very much intended to limit overwhelm and confusion, and more so to reduce overall fatigue.

This is literally the fun part of interior design. The things that you will touch, see, smell, and USE. Visually anymore, backsplashes and details are more for appeal than function, they are eye candy that we crave. This is just one selection that is based almost purely on the comfort and beauty of a home. Functionality of appliances trump all else in today's market, even outweighing cost. However, overspending here is absolutely not necessary. Again, education and guidance are key in selecting these major components of the home.

Organization is a must in our daily lives, it's a given. Products and accessories for organization are plentiful within cabinetry, whether custom or RTA (ready to assemble) products. Anymore, RTA has entered the "big boy" building field, offering such options that literally make it where you can use RTA cabinets and add so many options and added custom details to them, that they have become often preferred. RTA has earned a secure place in almost all price leveled homes. It comes to taste and functionality, one that HausPlanned is not discriminatory against considering for our clients. Function trumps, again.
HausPlanned has a direct dealership with an RTA option that has served well within mid to upper-end homes that Ty built over the years. Coincidentally, these hybrid RTA/custom cabinet use options have endured extremely well, even to the degree of outlasting some older custom builds. Our dealership is through US Cabinet Depot, and is readily available.

Color has come back into play in 2026. We've all seen color themes and overplay, the changes over time. Like, who can EVER forget Harvest Gold and Avocado from the 1970s? Or Mauve and Forrest Green from the 1990's? Well, we have another one on the horizon... ALL WHITE. Done, T-shirt bought, and over.

Color has returned, and it is what creates a heartbeat felt throughout a home. Often subtle and soft, with a kick here and/or there of a focus that is dramatic. Being smart and coordinative with your decor and the language of the home is the key to a well-appointed interior that is comfortable without gaud, and with avoidance of over pretension.
